In the sunshine state of Queensland, there are plenty of things to do for National Science Week.
To make it easy to sort through the countless events, here are some of our picks for the 9 days of incredible science outreach and activities.
National Science Week officially runs from 11 – 19 August.
Saturday 11 August
Wetland Wander – Gold Coast
Wetlands are one of the most valuable ecosystems on Earth. Wetland Wander is an art-science collaboration that aims to inspire engagement and conservation of these critical ecosystems.
It is led by wetland ecologist Fernanda Adame, sound artist Leah Barclay, walking/media artist James Cunningham, and multimedia artist Suzon Fuks. It incorporates knowledge from current and traditional landowners within Quandamooka (Moreton Bay), and Nywaigi, Gulgnay and Girramay countries (Queensland, Australia).

Living Science at Eagle Farm Market
Get up close to some of CSIRO’s science. From bees to bionics and pulsars to proteins, we’re working on a huge range of exciting research projects.
Get hands-on and learn more about some of the many problem-solving projects we’re working on to make a difference to people, industry and the planet.
Throw your ideas in the mix with some of CSIRO’s classic and current innovations that will set us on the path to a sustainable future.

Australian Brain Alliance EMCR Network North QLD Showcase
To celebrate the National Science Week, The Australian Brain Alliance EMCR Network is hosting a FREE showcase of some of the best North QLD brain science research. We welcome all to attend, whether you are an EMCR, or more senior, and work in the field of brain sciences.
Each of the 4 invited presenters will provide a 15-minute talk, followed by a catered networking event.

STEM Stations
Take a tour of The Workshops Rail Museum, stopping at our National Science Week STEM Stations. Have fun learning with free, hands-on engineering activities offered to visiting schools. Explore principles of science, maths, engineering and technology as you take up each challenge by constructing, racing, propelling, testing and problem solving.
Sessions at 10am, 11:30am and 1pm, on August 13, 14, 16, 17.

It Takes A Spark Conference
The “It Takes a Spark” conference connects female students and schools with inspiring female industry role models, has them share their current school based activities and projects, create networks of teachers and student teams, and solve social justice design challenges.

Fiftysix Creations in Mount Isa

Creating Our World – DIY Appropriate Technology Workshops
The Engineers Without Borders “Creating our World – DIY Appropriate Technology Workshops” are interactive open workshops which aim to demonstrate how a career in engineering and science gives you the skills to make a difference in the world. Interactive open workshops are tailored for family and young adults but anyone is welcome!
The workshops focus on appropriate science and engineering applications in energy, water and sanitation hygiene, and housing construction.
