He learnt that his job is as much about collaborating with other people and developing communication skills as it has been ‘being a scientist’. He didn’t realise that a scientist’s work could be involved in working out how to make the houses we live in greener, more energy efficient and cheaper to live in but was driven by a desire to make a difference to people’s lives.
